Description

HOLMES, QUINN & GORMAN whiskey jug, Gunnison, Colorado.
Grocers and sellers of retail and wholesale whiskey Company also sold tinware, mining supplies, wagons,  farming implements, blankets, hay, grain, feed and all the other necessary supplies for surviving  Gunnison, Colorado in 1899 – 1900.

To-date, no other whiskey jugs are known to have been made for any other establishment in Gunnison, Colorado. (Please feel free to politely correct me by informing me of other Gunnison, Colorado whiskey jugs.  Cheers.)

What’s even more intriguing, there are only two known examples of the HOLMES, QUINN & GORMAN whiskey jug to exist: the one I am offering here and the other with an excellent and highly knowledgeable collector in California.

This jug, although crudely made (as is the other known example) has only one small flaw: a dime-sized superficial chip  on the right shoulder).  Otherwise, this jug is as it was in 1899 – 1900.

Dimensions: gallon-size; 10 inches in height; 7-1/4 inches in diameter at base.
Salt-glazed in the original furnace in which it was made.
