Dr. J. W. Rockeller began his career in Gunnison, Colorado as a physician in the City of Gunnison in 1881. After several years, Rockefeller moved to Crested Butte, Colorado; and, as the Colorado Fuel & Iron Company was formed, Rockefeller opted to become the coal company’s physician in Crested Butte. Rockefeller, the entrepeneur, along with C.J. Diel, C.L. Ross, and G.V. Benson established the Bank of Crested Butte, a hydroelectric company, a real estate company, a telephone company, as well as gold and coal mining companies.
The stock certificate offered here represents the entrepreneurial efforts Dr. J. W. Rockefeller and his business associates.
