Largest gold producer in the Cripple Creek Gold Mining District.
Original incorporated was 1894, under the Laws of the Stste of Iowa.
This certificate is signd by two of three co-discoverers of the mining claim: James F. Burns, president and James Doyle, secretary
Company originally owned a fraction of mining claim on Battle Mountain, above Lawrence and Victor, Colorado, near W. S. Stratton’s Independence Mine.
By 1900, The Portland Company owned over 183 acres on Battle Mountain.
Total production from April 1, 1894, to January 1, 1900 was 148,149 tons of gold ore valued at $8,378,737 when gold was valued at $20 per troy ounce.
Major shareholders: James F. Burns, Irving Howbert, Frank G. Peck, Charles J. Moore, A.T. Gunnell, John Harnan, and Winfield Scott Stratton.
Certificate is cancelled, yet still in near fine condition; usual two folds.
