The Colorado Springs Rapid Transit Railway Company was organized by real estate developers, A. L. Lawton and F. L. Lawton, February 27, 1890 to maintain and operate a system of street railways in and about the City of Colorado Springs. Seven directors composed the board: Frederick L. Martin, Edwin J. Eaton, Alvan A. McGovney, and Andrew L. Lawton of Colorado Springs; Michael A. Leddy of Manitou Springs; and Edwin W. Brady and Arthur S. Hughes of Davenport, Iowa. The Company acquired the El Paso Rapid Transit Company; and, the El Paso County Commissioners granted rights-of-way over several highways leading to the City of Colorado Springs, Colorado City, Manitou Springs, Cheyenne Canon, Garden of the Gods, Austin Bluffs and other points.
Certificate is in near fine condition with usual folds.
