Date: 1908 – 1909
Sam Peterson was born in Tunsta, Norway, in 1874; arrived in the United States in 1891. In 1895, Peterson was in Cripple Creek, Colorado; married Anna Johnson in 1899. After Cripple Creek, Peterson moved to Steamboat Springs, and then to Kremmling, Colorado. Most of these years he participated in the saloon business.
The two original photographs in this lot were taken somewhere in 1908-1909. In 1910, Peterson moved to Thermopolis, Wyoming, after selling The Denver Northwestern Bar. In Thermopolis, Peterson opened the Blue Front Saloon. Wyoming was not experiencing as strong resistance to saloons and saloon-politics as Colorado was during this time.
Condition: very good plus to near fine; both original photographs have excellent tones, contrasts & details; original mounts are generaly in very good plus to near fine condition; interior image has small chip in left-hand margin.
