Description
BOSTON & COLORADO SMELTER
PROF. NATHANIEL P. HILL, BLACK HAWK, COLORADO TERRITORY
Duhem Bros, photographers, #5
Published circa, 1866
CONDITION: VERY GOOD PLUS; strong tones & contrasts resulting in very good detail; images a shade light; some light wear around edges of original mount.
Prof. Hill’s smelter, employing a Swansea-based reduction process, revived the floundering Colorado gold mining industry after many of the surface, oxidated workings were exhausted and hard-rock, crushing processes were required to elevated gold recovery.
