Even though this image was originally taken by T. C. Miller, it has the imprint of, “Colorado Views, published by James W. Nutt,” Portrait and Landscape Photographer, Alma, Colo.” Nutt became Miller’s partner for a short period in the early 1880s before purchasing Miller’s studio and glass-plate negatives.
Founded in 1872, at the junction of south Platte River and Buckskin Creek, and named after Alma James, wife of prominent merchant in the area. The amassing of population in this area was partially due to the development of the London mines. Town of Alma, Colorado elevation: 10,360 feet. Surrounding mountains include: Mount Bross, Mount Democrat and Mount Lincoln. Gold and silver mine locations number in thousands throughout the region.
Stereoview condition: near fine to fine with excellent tones and contrasts; original mount shows very little wear.
