J. Ross Browne was born in Ireland in 1821; emigrated with his family to Louisville, Kentucky in 1833. J. Ross attended Louisville Medical School and published his first book in 1841.  By 1849, J. Ross Browne was working for the U.S. Government. 1861: Browne and his family were in Germany; and, in 1864, he returned to America and once again
traveled west.  After authoring ADVENTURES IN APACHE COUNTRY he was appointed to a position in China, but recalled in 1870.  Browne died in Oakland, California in 1875, leaving a legacy of numerous writings.
