Originally incorporated in 1880 as The Hermosa Mining Association. Matt France, a respected judge in Colorado Springs formed a company — The Hermosa Mining Company — to purchased the Hermosa Association in 1882. This mining company owned 14 claims in the Rico Mining District, of which the Harriet claim was one of the productive, having a fissure vein 24-inches wide, containing quartz with arsenical sulphide of iron and copper, producing 25 ounces of silver perton and 1/2-ounce of gold. The Silver King had a fissure vein 4-feet wide of decomposing quartz, containing pockets of black oxide of manganese, producing 18 ounces of silver per ton. Also, the Brother Jonathan with a fissure vein 6-feet wide of decomposed quartz and spar. Six and half miles from Rico, Pioneer Mining District.
