Colorado Midland Railroad wreck
APRIL 1, 1908: COLORADO MIDLAND Passenger Train 4 was pulling up Trout Creek Pass near Yale, Colorado with Engine 17 leading Engine 22. As the two locomotives drew around a curve both engineers saw the Trout Creek trestle on fire. Even though emergency brakes were applied both engines plunged into the dry creek. Reference: COLORADO MIDLAND by Morris Cafky. This albumen photograph is of Engine 22 after it was lifted and hauled out of Trout Creek. Later, both engines were repaired and placed back in service. Original albumen photograph dimensions: 7-1/2 inches by 4-3/4 inches. Original mount dimensions: 10 inches by 8 inches. Condition: near fine. Excellent tones and contrasts; fine detail.
